The government has released a list of 33 questions that will be asked during the first phase of the census, which is set to begin on April 1st. This phase will focus on creating a comprehensive list of households and will run for a period of 30 days in each state and union territory. The process will continue until September 30th, ensuring an accurate and up-to-date record.
During the survey, census officers will gather information about the ownership status of homes, their usage, the materials used for flooring and roofing, the number of rooms, and the gender of the head of the household. Additionally, they will inquire about the primary source of drinking water, lighting, toilet availability and type, waste disposal methods, bathing facilities, kitchen availability, LPG and PNG connections, and the main fuel used for cooking.
Citizens will also be asked about the basic amenities available in their homes, such as access to radio, television, internet, laptops, computers, telephones, mobile phones, and smartphones. The census workers will record the type of vehicle owned, the main grain consumed in the household, and a mobile number for census-related communication.
An interesting aspect is the option provided to citizens to self-enumerate 15 days prior to the start of the 30-day household listing campaign. This allows individuals to take an active role in the process and ensures their participation.
The census is being conducted in two phases. The first phase, from April to September, will focus on household listing and housing census, while the second phase, in February 2027, will involve the actual counting of individuals.
But here's where it gets intriguing: with such a comprehensive data collection process, what insights and trends might we uncover about our society and its development? And this is the part most people miss - the potential for controversy and differing opinions. What do you think about the questions being asked? Are there any aspects you feel should be included or excluded? Feel free to share your thoughts and let's spark a discussion!
